Panic grips panchayat representatives in Sopore after video of woman Sarpanch goes viral

Sopore, June 15  Soon after the video of a woman Sarpanch went viral on social media, panic has gripped the Sarpanchs and Panchs in Sopore block Sangrama.

Sarpanchs and Panchs of Sopore and Sangrama while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that they are feeling unsafe. “After scrapping Article 35-A in Jammu and Kashmir, the government security cover to us, but unfortunately the statement was never implemented on the ground,” they said.

Mehraj-Ud-Din Rather from Block Sangrama, a BJP Sarpanch told KNO that they have slept throughout the night after the video of a woman Sarpanch went viral on social media. “Besides, our families are also worried about us,” he said.

Another woman Sarpanch from BJP, from Karankshivan Block of Sangrama told KNO that being a woman; it's very hard for her to live a normal life.

The Panchs and Sarpanchs, however, demanded the government to provide security cover to them.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore, Javid Iqbal told KNO that they are ascertaining the veracity of the video that has went viral on social media—(KNO)
