Cold conditions further grip Kashmir

Srinagar: As the minimum temperature remained below the freezing point across Kashmir during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, cold wave conditions gripped the Valley.

Summer capital Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, down from 0.4 degrees Celsius during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, Meteorological Department data said.


Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3 degrees Celsius. Ski-resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla district also recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius during the night of Saturday and Sunday.

Mercury in Kupwara in north Kashmir settled at a low of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius while Qazigund, the gateway town to the valley, recorded minus 1.3 degrees Celsius, Kokernag recorded a low of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, MeT data said.

The Met office has said the weather will most likely remain dry but cold till December 3 after which there is a possibility of a light to moderate snowfall during December 4 and 5.
