JKRTC to establish ‘Charging Station’ for its e-buses in city centre

New Charging Station to be made operational within 2 months: Official

He said the motive behind the commissioning of Charge Station in the city centre is aimed to cater to farther areas, which are yet left out, and save the energy which gets wasted due to ‘to and fro’ of the buses to the existing Charge Station located in Parimpora, Bemina here.

Speaking exclusively to Rising Kashmir, an official who wished not to be named, said the Jammu & Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) will soon come up with a charge station in the city here.

He said the station will have a “charging point” centre for e-buses rolled out by JKRTC plying on several routes in the valley.

“The JKRTC is concerned about augmenting its infrastructure. In the past, the Corporation was a major service provider in J&K however due to some reasons its services got somehow affected. Meanwhile, to augment and expand its infrastructure and services, the JKRTC will soon come up with a charge station in the city centre which will play a crucial role in benefiting the Corporation in terms of energy," the official said.

He said JKRTC has already a Charging Station in Parimpora, Bemina Bypass, however, it consumes unexpected energy of our buses while reaching there for getting energized and simultaneously returning back to their allotted routes.

The officials said when an electric bus has to reach Charging Station at ParimporaBemina Bypass it has to cover the distance of almost 40 kilometres (to and fro from the city centre) which consumes much energy of these vehicles and thus gives little benefit to the Corporation.

“The higher authorities of the Corporation deliberated upon the matter several times and it was decided that the same sort of Charging Station would be established in the city centre here in order to save energy of these electric buses," he said.

The official also said that to avoid loss in terms of energy such a kind of Charging Station in the city centre will provide satisfactory results to the Corporation.

To a query, the official said the new Charging Station will come up in Hotel Lala Rukh in the city centre here and work over the project has already been taken up. He added, “Hopefully the station will be made operational within two months”.

He added once the station is completed, the JKRTC will start functioning round the clock in city areas and elsewhere.

“Currently our e-buses have to reach Parimpora Bypass for acquiring energy to run. This process also wastes the time of our drivers, so once JKRTC will come up with its new Charge Station in a nearby location, it will not only save our time but provide us with a way to think over newer plans," he added.

Notably, the JKRTC is going to resume its women exclusive bus service in city parts besides rolling out of 20-seater fifteen buses in the city in coming days.

The officials of the Corporation hoped that with such initiatives the Corporation once again will achieve its erstwhile position when it was considered a major service provider across Jammu & Kashmir.
