MeT predicts widespread snowfall, rains from Dec 5-7

Srinagar: In its latest weather advisory, Meteorological Department Monday forecasted moderate to heavy snowfall, and rains in plains of Jammu and Kashmir from December 5 to 7.


Director, MeT, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that following the fresh western disturbance entering Jammu and Kashmir during December 5th to December 7th. We are expecting widespread moderate to heavy snowfall and rains in plains of Jammu and Kashmir.


“Some places on higher reaches (above 2000m) may receive heavy snow (1-2 ft) whereas plains are likely to receive 2-3 inches of snowfall. This spell will bring respite from cold weather conditions and fog in the Valley,” he said.


The spell will lead to temporary disruption of traffic overpasses like Zojila, Sinthan Top, Razdan Top, Mugal Road.

 


As per MeT data, Kashmir witnessed improvement in night temperatures which has brought respite to people here from the cold weather conditions.
Srinagar settled at minus 1.1°C on Sunday night. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 3.4°C against. Ski resort Gulmarg recorded a minimum of minus 0.3°C.

 


As per traffic police advisory issued for Tuesday, subject to fair weather and better road condition, LMVs(passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall communicate with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic.

 


On Mughal road, subject to fair weather and good road condition, LMVs from both sides and HMVs (upto twelve tyres) from Srinagar towards Poonch shall be allowed on Mughal road. LMVs from Behramgalla 0800 hrs upto 1500 hrs., from Herpora 0800 hrs upto 1600 hrs and HMVs from Herpora 0900 hrs upto 1500 hrs.

 


Similarly, on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, subject to fair weather and good road condition, only one-way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil shall be allowed.LMVs followed by HMVs will be released from Sonamarg at 0900 hrs. up to 1400 hrs . No Vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timing, it said.
