We’re awaiting formal order to modify age limit: SSRB Chairman
Srinagar: The one-time age relaxation announced by the J&K government for aspirants of the Sub Inspector (SI) post in J&K Police is yet to be a reality.
The J&K Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) has not modified the upper age limit on the registration link which has left the aspirants disappointed.
Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced a one-time age relaxation for thousands of Sub-Inspector aspirants preparing for recruitment in J&K Police.
The decision was taken by the LG after taking cognisance of a host of representations pouring in through print and electronic media, besides the issue being raised by several delegations during their interactions with the LG.
LG Sinha had ordered the increase of the upper age limit from 28 to 30 years for the aspirants besides enhancing the number of UT Cadre posts from 800 to 1200.
Greater Kashmir received distressed calls and emails from the aggrieved aspirants who had crossed the age bar of 28 years complaining that the J&K SSRB was yet to implement the directions.
“The SSRB has not updated the upper age limit on the registration link opened for the recruitment process. I tried to fill the form but I was shown ineligible even though my age is only 29 years,” said Adeel Masoodi, an aspirant.
“Not only upper-age limit, but SSRB also did not update the website regarding enhancement in the number of posts for J&K,” he said.
The aspirants also said that the last date for submission of the application form was fixed at December 10. “We will not be able to submit our forms if the SSRB does not update the upper-age limit and the number of posts on the registration link. The government should look into the issue,” said another aspirant, Irfan Bhat.
Chairman SSRB Khalid Jehangir told Greater Kashmir that the board was a recruiting agency and could not modify the recruitment link unless they receive the communication from the concerned department.
“We go ahead with the recruitment as per the notification issued by the concerned department. We can’t modify or change the rules on our own,” he said.
Jehangir said that the Home department was supposed to send a communication to SSRB in case any relaxation was to be given in the upper age limit while filling the application forms.
“We can update the upper-age limit on the registration link only after we receive any formal or official communication from the Home department,” he said.
