More dip in min temperatures, dry weather to continue till Dec 23: MeT

Srinagar, Dec 15: The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Wednesday said that weather will remain dry till December 23rd in the region, while there will be further drop in minimum temperatures across the Valley, officials said.
In the latest weather advisory, Director MeT, Sonam Lotus said the weather will remain mainly clear in both UTs till December 23rd.
“We are expecting further fall in minimum temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees in Jammu and Kashmir and 4 to 6 degrees in Ladakh region in coming days. As of now, we will have a white Christmas in both UTs (chance of occurrence as of now 60%),” he said.
“There will be warmer days and colder nights in UT till December 23rd,” he said.
As per MeT data, Kashmir witnessed improvement in night temperatures and bringing respite from cold weather conditions.
Srinagar settled at minus 3.9°C on Tuesday night. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 6.4°C. Ski resort Gulmarg recorded a minimum of minus 8.6°C and was the coldest place in the Valley.
The mercury in Kupwara has settled at a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius. Qazigund, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius.
As per traffic police advisory on Thursday, subject to fair weather and better road condition, LMVs (passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic.
On Mughal road, subject to fair weather and good road condition, LMVs from both sides and HMVs (upto twelve tyres) from Srinagar towards Poonch shall be allowed on Mughal road. LMVs from Behramgalla 0800 hrs upto 1500 hrs, from Herpora 0800 hrs upto 1600 hrs & HMVs from Herpora 0900 hrs. upto to Kargil shall be allo1500 hrs.
Similarly, one-way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil shall be allowed on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road. LMVs followed by HMVs will be released from Sonamarg at 0900 hrs. upto 1400 hrs,” reads the traffic advisory.
