Centre wants transport facility for students coming from remote areas in J&K

SED in process to solve issue: Officials

Srinagar, Jan 19: The Union Ministry has said that there is either non-availability or inadequate transport facility in Jammu and Kashmir for the students of remote areas.

In an annual project board meeting, the Ministry of Education (MoE) said, “Provision for transport facilities in Jammu and Kashmir needs to be worked out for children belonging to far flung areas.”

“In these areas, the transport facility is either not available or is not adequately provided as required,” MoE said.

Principal Secretary, School Education Department, B K Singh told Rising Kashmir that the department is in process to solve transportation issues.

“The government is looking for the solutions to provide the transport facility to the schools having unavailability or inadequate transport facility,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, Pardeep Kumar said, “The issues of roads are being monitored by the district level regional transport authority.”

In the meeting, authorities also said that Jammu and Kashmir does not have a separate cadre for teacher education.

“As such the adjustment of posts in District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIETs) is done by way of inter-transferring of Joint Directors, CEOs, principals, lecturers from School Education to Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) and vice-versa for tenure of two years,” it reads

MoE said, “This frequent inter department movement of academicians, from one position to another and then back, has not facilitated the creation of a permanent and professional pool of Teacher Educators in the UT.”

The ministry also said that during the year 2021-22, the focus will be on enhancing the qualitative outcomes as envisaged in NEP 2020 and increase the effectiveness of the implementation of the Scheme.

“For this purpose, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) have been developed for each intervention so that qualitative assessment of each intervention can be made,” MoE said. (Rising Kashmir)
