Don't need to wear hijab to prove myself a good Muslim: Class 12 topper from Kashmir reacts to online trolling

Srinagar resident Aroosa Parvaiz, who topped class 12 board exams in science stream, was subject to online trolling for not wearing a 'hijab'. Replying to trolls, Parvaiz said she follows Islamic principles and doesn't need to wear a hijab to prove herself a good Muslim.

Speaking to India Today, Aroosa Parvaiz said, "I have belief in Allah and follow Islamic principles. I don't need to wear a hijab to prove myself a good Muslim."

Aroosa Parvaiz said she was very upset with the online trolling. "I am not bothered by it but my parents are very worried after these comments on social media," she said.

On Friday, Aroosa Parvaiz was felicitated by the district administration for bagging first position in the science stream in the recently declared results of class 12 class board examination.

Aroosa Parvaiz, who hails from the Ellahibagh area of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, scored 499 marks out of 500 (99.80 per cent) in science stream. She was felicitated by the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, during a felicitation ceremony held in his office chamber. Parwaiz was honoured with a certificate of excellence, a trophy and a cheque of Rs 10,000 as a mark of encouragement for her success.

However, on Saturday morning, toxic trolling was initiated against Aroosa Parvaiz on social media. While on one side, some social media users were congratulating her, on the other side, some people were criticising her for not wearing hijab.(India Today)
